Today Marks Holy Eid-ul-Adha – Bangla Online News Portal

Bringing the message of sacrifice, submission, and seeking the pleasure of Almighty Allah, today marks the celebration of Holy Eid-ul-Adha, one of the major religious festivals of the Muslim Ummah. This festival, also known as ‘Qurbani Eid’ (the Eid of Sacrifice), will be observed with due religious solemnity and grandeur by devout Muslims across the country, including the capital Dhaka.

In the morning, devotees offer the two rakats of Wajib Eid prayer at Eidgahs and mosques. After the prayers, the significance of Qurbani (sacrifice) is highlighted in the sermon (khutbah). Rich and poor alike participate in the Eid prayers and exchange greetings together.

After the Eid prayers, able Muslims perform animal sacrifice in hopes of attaining the pleasure of Almighty Allah. According to Islamic history, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was prepared to sacrifice his beloved son, Prophet Ismail (AS), upon Allah’s command. Pleased with his obedience, Allah arranged for an animal sacrifice instead of Ismail (AS). The tradition of Qurbani was instituted in Islam to commemorate this event.

On the occasion of Holy Eid-ul-Adha, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have extended greetings to the countrymen in separate messages. Leaders of various political parties and social organizations also conveyed their Eid wishes.

The main Eid congregation was held at the National Eidgah adjacent to the High Court in Dhaka. The President, Prime Minister, judges, diplomats, and people from various walks of life participated there. Special security measures were put in place surrounding the Eid congregation.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Eid, government and important buildings have been adorned with special lighting. Special programs are being broadcast on television and radio. Additionally, special meal arrangements have been made in hospitals, prisons, orphanages, and children’s homes.
