Prime Minister: “People now want a state free from enforced disappearances, abductions, and the culture of fear.”

People now want to see a state and society free from enforced disappearances, abductions, and the culture of fear, commented Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said that after more than a decade and a half, a democratic government has been established in the country through a free, fair, and impartial election. People now want to see a state and society free from enforced disappearances, abductions, and the culture of fear, where there will be no apprehension for life and property, nor any fear of injustice, misconduct, or oppression.

The Prime Minister made these remarks in a Facebook post on Saturday (May 9) on the occasion of ‘Police Week 2026’. He wrote that the role of law enforcement agencies, especially the police, is paramount in maintaining such a desired situation.

The Prime Minister stated that there is no alternative to the police force for maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property in a state. However, if the police can build a relationship of trust and confidence with the public, then the path of performing duties becomes even easier and smoother.
