Home Minister: Terrorism and Extortion to Be Completely Eradicated in the Country

There will be no sanctuary for any kind of terrorism in the country, and extortion will be completely eradicated, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed announced. He stated that anti-drug operations would continue more vigorously across the country, and the government is taking a strict stance on suppressing crime.

He made these remarks on Sunday (May 31) afternoon during a visit to Jangal Salimpur in Chattogram.

The Home Minister said that there are plans to construct a new prison in Jangal Salimpur. However, he also clarified that no one would be evicted from the area for the time being.

He further added that an initiative would be taken to form special tribunals for the swift disposal of drug-related cases. He expressed hope that with special tribunals, the thousands of cases currently pending for a long time would be resolved quickly.

Expressing concern over the rising trend of ‘Kishore Gang’ (juvenile gang) crimes in the country recently, the Home Minister emphasized the need for legal reforms to combat this problem. He noted that many juvenile offenders are getting involved in serious crimes by misusing certain provisions of the current law, which is creating significant security risks for the future.

He informed that initiatives would be taken to amend the necessary laws in this regard, to make crime suppression more effective and to ensure the protection of the youth.
