The Technology and Devices Integrated into the FIFA World Cup Ball

If everything goes according to plan, the FIFA World Cup will kick off on June 11. This edition will see 48 teams participate for the first time. The tournament will be hosted across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Even before the World Cup begins, the tournament’s official ball, ‘Triomph’ (referred to as ‘Tryonda’ in the Bengali text), manufactured by Adidas, has garnered attention. The ball has been named in honor of the three host nations. It incorporates the flag colors of the United States, Canada, and Mexico—blue, red, and green.

The ‘Triomph’ ball incorporates sophisticated embedded chip technology and a 500 Hz motion sensor. This technology is expected to help make VAR decisions even more accurate.

The ball’s most significant feature is its advanced motion sensor chip, capable of collecting data approximately 500 times per second. This allows for instant analysis of the ball’s speed, position, and precisely when a player touches the ball.

The sensor weighs only 14 grams. While technology has been used in footballs before, it has been further enhanced this time. The sensor has been integrated in such a way that it does not alter the ball’s natural weight, speed, or bounce.

Another crucial aspect of this new ball is its power system. The internal sensor needs to be charged before a match to remain active. Once fully charged, it can operate for up to 6 hours.

From the outside, it will be impossible to tell that the ball contains such technology. This technology is expected to further strengthen the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system. Stadium cameras and the ball’s internal sensor will work in conjunction to provide accurate analysis of every incident. The ‘Triomph’ is not just a ball; it will be a smart technology for precisely analyzing every moment of the game.
