49 MPs for Reserved Women’s Seats Sworn In

Newly elected members of parliament for the reserved women’s seats of the Thirteenth National Parliament have officially taken their oath. On Sunday (May 3), Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed administered the oath to the Members of Parliament for the reserved women’s seats in the oath-taking room of the National Parliament Secretariat.

The Parliament Secretariat informed that the swearing-in ceremony took place at 9 PM in the oath-taking room located on Level-1 of the East Block of the Parliament building. The Speaker of the National Parliament administered the oath to these newly elected women public representatives. With the swearing-in of these newly elected Members of Parliament, the Thirteenth National Parliament achieved its full formation.

Earlier, on April 30, the Election Commission published the gazette for 49 individuals who were elected unopposed to the reserved women’s seats of the Thirteenth National Parliament.

The returning officer stated that 53 candidates had submitted nomination papers (excluding NCP leader Nusrat Tabassum, who submitted her nomination 19 minutes late). Among these, a total of 49 valid candidates, including 36 from the BNP alliance, 12 from the Jamaat alliance, and one from the independent alliance, were declared elected unopposed, and a gazette was published in their names.

The 36 elected women Members of Parliament (MPs) from BNP are – Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhter Runu, Newaz Halima Arly, Mosammat Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Shakila Farzana, Helen Zerin Khan, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Zeba Amin Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Sansila Zebrin, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minj, Subarna Shikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Shammi Akhter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Bithika Binte Hossain, Suraiya Zerin, Mansura Akhter, Zaharat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alam, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Shawkat Ara Akhter, Madhabi Marma, Selina Sultana, and Rezeka Sultana.

The 12 MPs from the Jamaat alliance are – Nurunnisa Siddiqa, Marzia Begum, Sabikunnahar Munni, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Hannan, Sajeda Samad, Shamsunnahar Begum, Eng. Mardia Momtaz, Rokeya Begum, Dr. Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Tasmiya Pradhan, and Eng. Mahbuba Hakim.

Additionally, Sultana Jesmin from the independent alliance was declared elected as an MP, and a gazette was published in her name.
